Crossley Orthodontics wants all of our students to have an amazing school year! Here are 4 tips for going back to school with braces.

1. Carry a water bottle and stay hydrated

Staying hydrated is always a good idea, but drinking lots of water throughout the day will also help remove food particles from your teeth and braces. Drinking lots of water will also help you stay away from sodas that will stain your teeth and cause cavities, because when your thirst is quenched you won't be as tempted!

2. Bring a mouthguard

It's a good idea to wear a mouthguard when participating in contact sports. Wearing braces can increase your potential for injury if you get hit in the mouth, and a mouthguard will protect you from injury.

3. Be careful what you eat

Make sure you have a good understanding of what foods you should avoid during your school day. Hard, gooey, sticky and crunchy foods can damage your braces.

The temptation to eat candy and chew gum is high when you're at school. Pack yourself braces-friendly snacks and a lunch so you can set yourself up for success.

4. Keep your DIY Braces Locker Kit stocked and handy

Having your own braces toolkit will ensure you take great care of your braces all year long AND avoid any potential embarrassments that can happen.

We suggest that you keep a toothbrush and toothpaste, mirror, floss, orthodontic wax, tissue, and mouthguard in a kit that you store in your locker or backpack.
